Edgar Ramirez.
Olivier Assayas' Carlos is an epic filmmaker's film; an act of love to the art and the story. The viewer is mesmerized from the first frame. Solid, block form letters on a black background - it stops your heart and you willingly take the ticket and get on the ride.
It is almost too fast, it is almost too sensationalist. It is almost too Oliver Stone. It's dirty, it's titialating. It's lush; almost candy. But like a talented lover, storyteller, seducer, terrorist, Assayas pulls you back from ever falling in love with the character...even though the character is being embodied by the smoldering, earthy Edgar Ramirez. Unforgettable scenes linger just long enough to allow your pupils to widen to soak in the fullness. Cutting away just at the moment one wants to reach out to linger just a little longer. Assayas is seductive and he uses his medium masterfully.
The film rolls through the brainwaves long after it is over.
